Berry Creek Middle School offers high-quality football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, cross country, and track programs with most coaches being certified teachers in the school. All BCMS sports and activities follow Colorado High School Activities Association guidelines and calendars. Click on the OUR TEAMS button below to go to each teams page. There is a $35 fee per sport per year ($50 for football) and students must have a physical, history form and acknowledgement of risk form turned into the office. All forms are found by clicking on the buttons to the right.

BCMS Athletics Philosophy

All students must complete the BCMS Athletics Philosophy Student-Athlete Agreement Form to participate. The components of the BCMS Athletics Philosophy are outlined below.

Beginning a Season

Commitment

Commitment to a team is an essential requirement of team membership. Attendance at all games and practices leads to the success of the team and the development of individual skills. It is important to note that games and practices may be rescheduled during the course of a season. Therefore, an athlete’s schedule should remain flexible during the sports season to meet the commitment made to his/her team. Absence from school should be the only reason an athlete misses a practice or game. Doctor’s visits and other appointments should be scheduled at times other than during practices or games. Attendance is considered when determining playing time.

Communication

Eligibility

Overall course content grades are compiled each week while school is in session and communicate with teachers and coaches/sponsors. Students earning a 2.5 or higher will be academically eligible to participate in sports and other after-school activities and clubs.

Students earning two 2.0’s or lower in any overall course content grade will be academically ineligible for one week (Monday-Sunday). Students will be required to participate in any academic support opportunities as directed by staff (lunch bunch, study club, tutoring, etc.) until they are eligible.

Student-athletes who are ineligible may work with their teachers and coaches to participate in practices but must complete all of the following requirements and completely and accurately fill out the Eligibility Appeal form to be eligible for participation.

Complete all eligible missing work and receive teachers’ signatures indicating completion.

Re-do or retake any assessment below a 3 if within the timeframe for retakes.

Attend the ineligibility goal setting session during lunch on Mondays and make plans as to how you will become eligible.

Attend at least one Study Club when in session.

Players who are ineligible 2 weeks in a row may be off the team for the rest of the season.

Injury

Physicals

Athletes must have an annual physical on file in the Athletic Directors office to participate in athletics. Families must agree to notify the school if there is any change to an athlete’s medical or physical condition, which develops or is discovered after the physical is performed. An athlete is required to notify the coach or the athletic trainer if they sustain any injury while participating in practice or a game. An athlete who has been removed from athletic participation by a doctor must have a doctor’s clearance note to return to play.

Practice/Game Attendance

An athlete who does not attend school by 12:00pm on the day of practice or an event will not dress out for that practice or event. An athlete who chooses not to participate in P.E. will not participate in the scheduled practice or event for that day. An athlete who is at school but misses practice (without a note from the parent) will not participate in the next event; if a note is received from the parent verifying that the missed practice was excusable, the athlete may participate in the next event, but the amount of participation may be less. If you are going to be absent from practice, notify your coach before practice. An athlete will be dropped from the team on their 2 unexcused absences from practice. Two excused absences will equal one unexcused.
