Science: 2nd Quarter

Mr. Clark: In Science we are currently wrapping up learning about Cells. During the second quarter, we will be focusing on the human body. We are going to learn about the digestive system, respiratory system, nervous system, and circulatory systems. Th\is unit is based on how all the organs and systems work together to keep you healthy. We also talk about healthy eating and how what you eat affects your body.

Math: 2nd Quarter
Ms. Ridler:
Students explore proportional relationships in a variety of real-world contexts and make comparisons using representations such as tables, equations, and graphs.
Advanced Math: 2nd Quarter
Ms. Ridler:
This week we are finishing up our unit on triangles. Students have explored the triangle sum theorem, congruence triangle theorems, and determined the number of triangles possible to draw given three-measures of sides or angles. Next, students will examine and create scaled copies of figures, as well as explore scale drawings of real-life objects. Students study dilations and similar figures. They use similar triangles to explain, understand, and apply the concept of slope.
Language Arts: 2nd Quarter
Mrs. Anderson: We are reviewing theme and taking an assessment on how to analyze this topic. We will then move on to our class novel, "Harbor Me". As we read and work on comprehension through the various literary elements, we will incorporate poems and nonfiction reading connected to the novel. Grammar will be a focus during our warm-ups.
Social Studies: 2nd Quarter
Ms. Yoce:
This quarter, we will study two of the world’s first civilizations — Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt. We will learn how people built cities, created laws, used writing systems, and developed religions and governments that influenced the world for thousands of years.

Ms. Ridler: Social Studies: Currently, we are studying the paleolithic people into the neolithic revolution. We will then learn about the beginnings of civilization with Mesopotamia and into the history of Egypt, Kush, and Phoenicia. We will study the interdependence and uniqueness among peoples in the Eastern Hemisphere, including their influence on modern society.
